A large earthquake of magnitude Mw=6.3 occurred on 14 August 2003 NW of the Lefkada Island
which is situated at the Ionian Sea. The focal mechanism solution revealed strike slip type faulting.
The ruptured fault is almost vertical and has a NE-SW direction.
The inversion of teleseismic waves showed that the earthquake had directivity to Southwest.
The calculated slip model is very complex.
